Biography
Jordi Díez Fernández was born in Valladolid on March 5, 1966. He studied Fine Arts at Universidad Complutense de Madrid graduating “Suma Cum Laude” in Sculpture. In 1989, he opened his first studio in Fresnedillas de la Oliva (Madrid). There – isolated for three years – he contemplated and formed the foundations of his deep and original artistic style. Currently, he lives and works in Centelles (Barcelona).
Figurative expression, especially in the human form, is the focus of Jordi Díez’s work. Mr. Díez works exclusively with steel, which provides a distinctive brightness, transforming his creations into artistic novelties, admired by figurative art collectors worldwide. For Díez, the beauty of the material itself contains a unique richness that highlights the expression of his pieces.
His work can be found worldwide in museums, religious institutions, public spaces and private collections. In fact, he is considered by many experts to be one of Spain’s most accomplished artists.
Currently, he is involved in sculptural projects in San Francisco, Barcelona, France, Germany, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Thailand and Taiwan.
Artist statement
“When creating steel sculptures, only the essentials are needed to express a figure. Thus, the figure is placed on the borders of reality, filling the air with rods spread in all directions, with some dense and tangible zones coexisting with open, ethereal and barely present spaces. I invite you on a journey to experience my great passion for figurative art, and explore my sculptures and monuments of steel, as well my earlier works made with terracotta, stone, wood and iron.”
