In Memory of Sculptors

• I wanted to honor in some studley fashion those sculptors who are no longer with us. I have been doing "Web Portraits" of individual sculptors.  Just click on the link and you will be taken to another page of links on that particular sculptor.  It takes me several hours to produce a rough "Web Portrait" of a sculptor, and several days to do a polished work.

• Seymour Lipton (1903-1986), Seymour Lipton Sculpture - Masterpiece Galleries - Abstract Expressionist sculptor, Seymour Lipton, is the focus of a major retrospective exhibition hosted and organized by the Palmer Museum of Art, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA. The exhibition is accompanied by a monograph authored by Dr. Lori Verderame, Director, Masterpiece Galleries, 15 West Mechanic Street, New Hope, PA. The book and exhibition features both Lipton's early bronze sculptures and his constructed metal sculptures of the 1950s through the 1980s. • Sculptor Gerald Lynch (died Sept 26, 2000) - Gerald Lynch has exhibited nationally and has completed numerous commissions. The most recent was a Holocaust Memorial for Brigantine, New Jersey. He won a gold medal at the Allied Artists of America's 62nd annual exhibit and appeared in the Academy Award-winning documentary film, "The Stone Carvers." He has carved at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C., and has carved major pieces in Italy, Scotland, and Poland. He has been sculptor-In-Residence at the Carving Studio in Rutland, Vt., and at Wheaton Village in Millville, N.J. Mr. Lynch was an instructor at the International Marble Carving Symposium in Marble, Colorado for 6 years, and at the Southwest stone carving symposium in new Mexico in 1999. • Mulligan, Charles (born: Charles Molyneux) Chicago based sculptor. Had a studio at Chicago Art Institute through 1920's. Worked as a student (and/or assistant) in the Paris studio of Auguste Rodin.
  
  
• Plazatto:  Enzo Plazzotta - We are the Estate of the late Italian Sculptor Enzo Plazzotta (1921-1981) for those who are interested the website is www.plazzotta.co.uk  If you like classical sculpture you will enjoy your visit. London England oconor@plazzotta.co.uk - Enzo Plazzotta was born in Mestre, near Venice and died aged sixty after having worked in London as a sculptor for more than half his life. He always maintained his links with Italy and had a studio at Pietrasanta in Tuscany from 1967.  His female studies are perhaps the most admired of his bronzes and a series of horses in action led to commissioned work of some famous racehorses by their owners.
  
  
• Polasek: Albin Polasek, N.A,, (1879-1965 , Czech-American Sculptor) A monumental wizard, who literally carved his own destiny. Albin Polasek's life is truly the story of America as a land of opportunity, and represents the gratitude so many talented men and women expressed for this land, their new home. • Ream: Vinnie Ream (Hoxie) (1847-) The story of Vinnie Ream (Vinita) Ream, the youngest, and the first female artist, to be awarded a congressional commission, was almost lost in the archives of American history although her sculpture remains prominent in the public eye. Ream was 18 years old when she received the commission for the Lincoln statue beating out several distinguished male sculptors for this honor. A letter in testimony to her skills and talent was signed by 29 senators and 114 representatives.
