Waste Cutting, Abrading, and Drilling (ZAWCAD) The ZAWCAD technology was first demonstrated in FY-93 by ejecting
60,000 psi cryogenic nitrogen through a 0.007 inch diameter orifice. The method was later enhanced by combining
carbon dioxide snow with the high velocity jet to enhance cutting effectiveness. The components that make up the jet
are traveling in excess of 3,000 feet per second. When these components strike a surface or object, the impact
forces rip away tiny pieces of the object, which results in a cutting or abrading process.
