on culture, folk traditions, or natural phenomena. These works of art develop
through four basic themes, Portraits, Medicine, Fantasy, and Humour."
- Sergey
Oleshko - Representational, Abstract, All Media - "My work is created based
on the beauty of both human & natural activities in this world and in the
unknown worlds in space. Using abstrations in my work allows me to explore my
emotions and to improve my self-development"
- Igor
Hoda - Abstract, Bronze and Ceramic - "My works reflect purely associational
impressions, which were called by a certain event, mood or state of nature."
- Vladimir
Hohryakov - Abstact, Figurative Abstract, Glass and Ceramic - "Artist is
specialized in decorative ceramics, fire-places, fountains, vases, decorative
plastic, interior and exterior, for hotels, parks, etc."
- Vladimir
Petrovich - Abstract Figurative, Bronze, Wood and Stone - "My concept
is extremely simple. It is the optimistic belief in man. I also like the
grotesque, lyrics and irony qualities in art."
- Igor
Kopchik - Portrait, Representational, Pressed Leather Relief - "It is a
advancement and a step forward of artworks. Pressing on leather is leading 'art'
into a new direction. Although the process is long and complex, redirecting art
into another aspect certainly is worthwhile. Basing on some different religious
believes, I created some artworks that are considerably religious. For example,
like angels and orthodox priests. In some sense, you cannot detach them from
life. They are too close to you."

- Carved Wood Miniatures - Biography - Over twenty
years ago Elena began spending her free time carving wood. She improved her
skills and very soon she had begun making very skillful and artistic works. The
special uniqueness belongs to wooden miniatures (0.6 - 1.2 inches). According to
experts' opinion, such works are extremely rare, because of the small size of
the works and the great variety of difficulties during the creative
process. See: Super Miniatures, Soldiers, Chess:Moscow's History,

- Iohan George Pinsel -
Obviously, a specific significance for the Master had the Ukrainian art
influenced by the culture of late Paleologsisychasm - a phenomenon rooted in an
Eastern church. Pinsel's sculptures are full of mystical piety, they seem to
enter into a spiritual. At the last part of XVIII th century more than 40 of
Pinsel's disciples are active. They are: Petto and Matvij
Polejovski, Mykhajlo Filevich, Ivan Obrocky, Francisc Olensky and others.
Though this generation of sculptors is not quite of the whole depth of Pinsel
works, but they followed his tradition. They remained these style standards and
tried to manifestate emotional feelings, especially in draperies treatment, but
in more stagy decorative manner. - Oksana Kozyr Director of Pinsel's museum in
Lviv.
- Ukraine’s most famous sculptor, Alexander
Archipenko (1887-1964), was a pioneer of the cubist style. "Archipenko
eventually founded an art school in Berlin. During this time he began creating
and exhibiting his then revolutionary sculpture based broadly on Cubism. His
work was praised for purity of form and for his aim to fashion forms that are
abstract, symbolic and most novel. In 1921, Archipenko married German sculptress
Angelica Bruno-Schmitz. The couple then came to America where Archipenko,
thirty-six years old and already famous, established L'Ecole d'Art in New York
in 1923. He became a U.S. citizen in 1928. Described as a man with exceptional
energy and great spirit, Archipenko continued teaching, writing, and unceasing
artistic production until his death at the age of seventy-six. His prodigious
output included not only sculpture but paintings, drawings and prints." Archipenko in

- Among the earliest sculptures are the numerous stone
babas, life-size female figures that Turkic nomads erected in the steppe between
the 11th century and 13th century. Sculpture was not well developed in the
Kyivan and early modern periods. In the 19th century sculpture in parks,
squares, and other public places became popular, such as the statues of Saint
Volodymyr (Vladimir) and the cossack leader Bohdan Khmel’nyts’ky in Kyiv.
Ukraine’s most famous sculptor, Alexander Archipenko,
was a pioneer of the cubist style. He emigrated early in his career, eventually
settling in the United States in 1923. Contact: solovey@colosseum.com

Step: A New Step In the Development of Art in Western Lemkivshchyna by Jon W. Madzelan - "The natural scenery of Lemkivshchyna inspired the talent
of painters such as Nykifor Drovniak, Ivan Rusenko, sculptors Ivan
Savka, Mykhaylo Orysik, Oleksa Stetsiak."
- Orthodox - "The Orthodox Church does not acknowledge and has no sculptures. The reason is
not that it rejects this kind of art but that in sculptures the earthly beauty,
earthly efforts and functions of body are strongly emphasized. Pictures of
Western Renaissance painters and their sculptures accentuate the physical beauty
of a human in the first place, as Greeks in their pagan, pre-Christian art did.
Sculpture is a three-dimensional model, it is bound to the earth, to matter.
Observer is not able to enter a spiritual dialogue with a sculpture because it
communicates nothing more elevated, nothing higher than the things visible."
