University of Maine - Wood Design and Craftsmanship Students who desire a better understanding of wood tooling, furniture design and how to fashion wood through skills such as carving, turning and joinery can select the WSC Professional Electives option in Wood Design and Craftsmanship. Students in this option take courses in Wood Sculpture, Topics in Studio Art, Design of Wood Structures, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD).

New England Wood Carvers The New England Woodcarvers is an organization which promotes and encourages woodcarving, wood sculpture and whittling as art forms. Currently the organization has more than 650 members in the US and Canada. Meetings are held at the American Legion Hall on Great Road (route 4) in Bedford Massachusetts, the first Sunday of every other month. California Carvers Guild Teaching Sharing Promoting Wood Carving "The California Carvers Guild was organized as a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation in 1973 to bring people who loved to work in wood and other sculptural materials into one great family of carvers in this state. We have as our aim to be of service to those who carve and to those who wish to learn to carve, and those same desires are the only criteria for membership. We have some 2000 members - young and old, men and women, boys and girls, retired and working. We are truck drivers, doctors, stevedores, business people, mechanics, engineers, teachers, carpenters, electricians, dentists - you name 'em and we've got 'em in the ranks of CCG. We are especially interested in exposing this old and respected art form to people in retirement who may find it just the thing to bring a new dimension to their lives."
