- American Institute of
Conservation (AIC) AIC conservation professionals combine unique
skills in the arts and sciences gained through study and training in art
history, chemistry, studio art, and related disciplines. They are experts in the
conservation of paintings, paper, books, photographs , textiles, decorative
arts, sculpture, and wooden artifacts as well as architectural, archaeological,
natural science, and ethnographic materials. AIC members are practicing
conservators, conservation scientists, educators, administrators, collections
care professionals, technicians, and students; archivists, curators, and other
museum and library professionals; and architects and art historians. AIC also

Terminology
- Association for Preservation Technology
International (APTI) Members of APT include architects, conservators,
consultants, contractors, craftspersons, curators, developers, educators,
engineers, historians, landscape architects, managers, planners,
preservationists, technicians, tradespeople, and others involved in the
systematic application of the knowledge of methods and materials to the
conservation of buildings, districts and artifacts. Today, APT International has
members in 28 different countries. APT membership provides you with access
to an international network, up-to-date historic preservation technology,
technical publications, an annual conference with opportunities for specialized
training and education, member discounts, listing in the Directory of Members,

- National Center for Preservation
Technology and Training Efforts to establish a national preservation
center within the National Park Service have been evolving for nearly two
decades. In response to the clearly stated need for a National preservation
initiative, Congress passed the Historic Preservation Act
Amendments of 1992, creating NCPTT, NCPTT’s advisory board and NCPTT’s
grants program. NCPTT ... develop and distribute skills and technologies that
enhance the preservation, conservation, and interpretation of prehistoric and

Sites is an international non-governmental organization of
professionals, dedicated to the conservation of the world's historic monuments
and sites. ICOMOS provides a forum for professional dialogue and a vehicle for
the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of information on conservation

- Regional Alliance for
Preservation RAP now totals 14 organizations located throughout the
United States. RAP serves as an allied force to assist a wide variety of
cultural institutions with collections care activities. The mission of the
Regional Alliance for Preservation (RAP) is to provide comprehensive
preservation information to cultural institutions and the public throughout the

Guild is a nonprofit organization of conservation professionals, based
in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. While serving primarily as a forum for exchange of

- Western Association for Art
Conservation (WAAC) is a nonprofit membership organization for
professional conservators. WAAC was founded in 1975 to bring together
conservators practicing in the western United States to exchange ideas,
information and news. Although WAAC is specifically a regional organization for
the western states including Alaska and Hawaii, any individual or institution
may become a member regardless of location or national boundary.
