- Donald Davis, Stone Sculptor - Background - My sculptural endeavors
reflect this ebb and flow between two hemispheres. Some works are about nature -
the shapes are fluid and organic; other works are architectonic, geometric and
based on man's constructions. Often my sculptures juxtapose the differing forms
and seek a harmonious balance. My primary ongoing objective is to interlace
these two hemispheres and celebrate the underlying principles that I view as a
great common bond throughout. Donald Davis, 42 Helena Ave, Santa Barbara, CA

- Luciano Gabrielli, A
Sculptor - Artistic works of marble , bronze and other materials - biografia -
Luciano Gabrielli, born in Pietrasanta (Lucca) in 1940. For many years after his
studies, he worked and cooperated with several sculptors to the realization of
works made of marble or stone of national and international present-day famous
artists. At the same time, he carried out the artistic research of his own
marble sculpture. He taught “Plastic Subjects” in the teaching post of Figure
and Modelled Ornamental design at the state High School of Art in Novara. The
first research period was characterized by the synthesis of the human figure
through planes and lines as expression of movement and formal elegance. In
mid-eighties his researches experienced an expressive change, the classics used
for his own first studies come back to his mind so that a much more figurative
dimension takes shape slowly merging it with some elements of the previous
research. Although in most cases his sculptures have been realized in marble,
today he uses different materials, such as wood, resins and others. His long
activity allowed him to place his public works in schools, churches and State
buildings. See: Galleria, Arte, Arte Sacra, Opere Pubbliche Contact: lgabrielli@r-j.it or +39 0321

- Patricia Goss,
Sculptor - Stone Sculpture - I have been a painter all my life,
and was an art teacher at the National Ballet School in Toronto for 25 years.
But I have found stone to be the most fulfilling medium. I started studying in
Canada, but my interest led me to work with Carrara marble in Italy, Tinos
marble in Greece, and Portland limestone in England. I also work with Canadian
limestone and alabaster. Now I sculpt full time, and held my first exhibition
last year. This year I won the Shanks Award through the Haliburton School of
Fine Arts. Contact: Patricia Goss, 95 Maitland Street, Toronto, Ontario M4Y 1E3,

- Ed Jaffe, Marble Sculptor - Marble Sculpture and Paintings by Ed Jaffe - Biography - I have toured
the east coast of the US looking for sculpture and find that I have a larger
selection of marble sculpture on my gallery floor than any other commercial
space outside of New York. I know how to handle it, to ship it and to make sure
that you are satisfied with your choice. Like the dictionary definition...most
galleries have forgotten what sculpture is supposed to be and in the process
they no longer have the knowledge, the equipment or the personnel to move stone.
I do. See: Sculpture, Abstract Sculpture, Profile Article ( "Many of Ed Jaffe's sculptures and paintings evoke
images of mysterious cultures and lost civilizations. The Mayans, Incas, Aztecs
and Ancient Chinese emerge from the stone Jaffe carves into polished works of
art." ) Contact: sculpture@edjaffe.com or (540) 672-2400

Peter Schipperheyn has traveled annually to the marble quarries of Carrara Italy, since
being awarded an Italian government scholarship in 1979. Largely self
taught he has dedicated himself to mastering the difficult medium of carving
marble. - "I have spent a total of almost ten years out of the last twenty
in living and working in Carrara Italy with a special brotherhood/sisterhood of
people -who love to carve stone. The noble language of sculpture is very much
alive and practiced with passion and great love, it has been my great privilege
to have had this experience. Viva Italia!" See: Gallery 1, Gallery 2, Gallery 3, Studio Tour, Writings and Tutorial on Carving
