- Victor Harbison, Director - Blue Circle Gallery, Chicago, Illinois and Havana, Cuba - My name is Victor Harbison. I am coordinating a call for sculptors for Cuba's top art school, La Escuela de Bella Artes "San Alejandro" located in Havana, Cuba. San Alejandro is sponsoring an international sculpture workshop that will include 2 Italian sculptors, 5 Cuban masters, 5 Cuban students, and 5 American sculptors. The name of the project is "La Puerta de la Amistad", or the Door of Friendship. Each artist will receive a block of marble 75x50x25 centimeters that each artist will create his/her own design in double relief. The 17 pieces will then be assembled and permanently installed on the grounds of the university in Havana. The workshop will take place from June 10th to 20th, 2000. Blue Circle Gallery, located in Chicago, is willing to sponsor the costs of room and board for 2 artists while they are in Havana. All artists are responsible for their own transportation and other costs. The marble is being supplied by the university, as well as all tools to be used in the construction. If you are interested in this project, please contact me as soon as possible. I know that this is terribly short notice, but this project is extremely interesting and offers each artist a unique opportunity to interact with the top Cuban sculptors on the island. I can also give travel tips and make all arrangements for housing and help you with plane reservations. If you are not interested in this project but perhaps know of someone who would be, please pass this email on to them. I have some information regarding travel to Cuba and San Alejandro on my web site at www.bluecirclegallery.com . Contact: bluecircle@earthlink.net or 773-384-1739
- March 21, 2000: Janet Puchino, Senior Project Designer - Art South, Inc - I am writing to enlist your help in my attempt to research techno-art and artists. I am the Senior Project Designer for a fine art advisory to corporations, colleges and universities. During our 22 year history we have amassed a slide registry of over 5000 artists nationwide and in Canada who work with a variety of media. However we are sorely underrepresented in the technology sector. Artists who work with optics, holography, lasers, sunlight, etc. as their primary medium or in conjunction with any conventional sculptural or 2D medium would be a valuable find. Thank you in advance for your help. Contact: artsouthpa@aol.com

- Feb 17, 2000: Established Gallery seeks artists who are or have created "artist dolls" or what may be termed: mixed media figurative sculptures, dressed sculptures, characters, film miniatures, special effects, fantasy figures...something that would qualify as a 3D figurative piece which incorporates some fabric (if not a complete "dress") as well as something used for hair (wigs, fabric, natural materials, etc) and possibly jointed or pose-able (but not necessary). Even those from Japan who have created "Love Dolls", or special effects using poured latex would qualify. Most of the gallery artists have art related backgrounds such as: sculptors, graphic artists, special FX modelers, illustrators, theatre set designers, costumers, mask makers, window dressers, flat art painters, etc. The list of backgrounds is endless! Many have an art school background which they never used in "real life" and find a creative outlet for their imagination in creating "Fine Art Dolls", others have received on the job training from the film or animation industry and related areas. See: Boston Arts, Mann Gallery We are always looking for new works for the gallery. We have a page seeking new artists on our site. Contact: Nancie Mann at gallery@mediaone.net or 617-266-MANN.

- Feb 12, 2000: Greetings from Olivetree Gallery in beautiful Sandpoint, Idaho. Our gallery specializes in 3 dimensional sculptures in ceramic, glass, wood, mixed media and metal. Whimsical. Contemporary. Abstract. Colorful. Strange. Unusual. We like it all, and we're always searching for new artists who would like the opportunity to display their art in our gallery. Sandpoint, Idaho, is one of the top 100 artist colonies in America. We have it all up here. Clean air. Beautiful mountains, forests, lakes and rivers. Excellent skiing and fishing. Friendly people. And a nice, slow, taking it easy atmosphere. All of these things help bring money and tourism to our area. Our summer season, which runs from June through September, brings over 1/4 million tourists. And, sooner or later, they all walk through our little town and do some shopping. No, we don't handle high end bronzes or ornately carved marble sculptures. Our average sale is only from $100.00 to $250.00, but we have many sales between $250 and $600. Matt & Pamela Elbaum at elbaum@televar.com or (208) 255-7449.

I'm lining up painters and photographers, and anticipate some clients will be interested in sculptural portraits--from bust to life-size. I'd like to hear from artists who create likenesses in any sculptural media. Mark Spencer mkspen@aol.com Richard, The river of responses to my search for portrait sculptors has dwindled to a trickle.
